How do Cosequin DS Chewable Tablets work?

Cosequin DS contains an exclusive combination of TRH122® chondroitin sulfate, FCHG49® glucosamine, and manganese ascorbate,  These ingredients work together in maintaining your dog’s joint cartilage and retarding the enzymes that break down cartilage. Cosequin DS contains glucosamine hydrochloride that is a building block of cartilage.  Cosequin DS supplies key nutrients that keeps cartilage cells healthy and functioning . Coseqin DS contains chonroitin sulfate that blocks the enzymes that break down cartilage. Cosequin DS Chewable Tablets contain manganese ascorbate than is added to help optimize the production of cartilage components. Cosequin DS has been recomended by veterinarians since 1992 in dogs to maintain joint health. While the  ingredients in Cosequin DS can be provided seperately, there are controlled studies show the patented combination of ingredients in Cosequin DS is superior to using the ingredients alone.

When is the use of Cosequin DS Chewable Tablets  recommended?

Early action is always best. Different breeds of dogs age at different rates. With regular check-ups your veterinarian can talk with you about your dog’s aging process. Your veterinarian may discuss weight control, selective use of medications, exercise and the administration of Cosequin DS. It is important to have your dog examined by your veterinarian if you notice the dog having difficulties climbing stairs, jumping into the car, going for walks or even getting up. Your veterinarian can advise you if Cosequin DS can help. Your veterinarian may also suggest using Cosequin DS as a protective measure. This can be important for maintaining an active life for many dogs, especially large breeds and working dogs of all sizes. Cosequin DS Chewable Tablets may also be used to help support cartilage following joint surgery.

How long do Cosequin DS Chewable Tablets  take to work?

Since Cosequin DS is a supplelment and provides nutrients to maintain your dog’s joint health, it works more gradually than drugs. Improvement on Cosequin DS can range from gradual to dramatic. Following the administration schedule on the label for your dog’s weight, we recommend an initial administration period of four to six weeks. Some dogs may show a response in a shorter period of time.

Do Cosequin DS Chewable Tablets cause any side effects?

Cosequin DS offers unparalleled safety. A safety study in dogs demonstrated no adverse effects of Cosequin DS administration on blood work parameters, including complete blood count, biochemical, and clotting values. Some dogs may experience a mild gastrointestinal upset such as that which occurs when switching foods. If this is the case, you can try offering Cosequin DS with a meal.

Should I give Cosequin DS Chewable Tablets  to all of my dogs?

Research in dogs administered Cosequin DS has shown that if Cosequin is given prior to an injury, the animal returns to normal function much more quickly. In light of this research, Cosequin DS is recommended to protect cartilage in dogs that are overweight, working breeds, and large breeds, as well as the average “weekend warrior.” In order to gain the protective benefits of Cosequin DS in healthy animals, a low level of Cosequin DS may be used. The level for these pets varies, but the suggested maintenance level given every other day may be adequate.

My vet rcommended Cosequin Ds for my 10 year old lab that was having trouble getting around. Two months have passed since starting him on the Cosequin Ds and he is doing great. He can get around without any problems and he eats the chewable Cosequin Ds like a treat, so I don't have to force him to take them.
