Frontline Plus is a highly popular product that has proven to be fast and effective in the treatment and control of fleas, ticks and chewing lice that infest dogs. Frontline Plus can be used on dogs and puppies 8 weeks or older.

Dosage:

One of the helpful things about Frontline Plus is that the manufacturer, Merial Limited, packages the product in four different sizes based on the weight of your dog. At the time of this writing, the sizes are up to 22 pounds, 23-44 pounds, 45 to 88 pounds and 88 to 132 pounds.

For small dogs up to 22 pounds, the treatment dose is one small tube which contains 67mg or 0.67ml. For dogs in the 23 to 44 pound range, the treatment dose is one medium tube which contains 134mg or 1.34ml. For dogs in the 45 to 88 pound range, the treatment dose is one large tube which contains 268mg or 2.68ml. And, for dogs over 88 pounds the treatment dose is one extra large tube 402mg or 4.02ml.

Why the Dosage is Important:

Using the correct dosage of Frontline Plus is important for two reasons: one is to make sure the flea and tick infestation is treated correctly; the other is to make sure that your pet's health is not put at greater risk from over exposure to the active ingredients in the product.

How Frontline Plus Works:

Frontline Plus contains the ingredient fipronil, an insecticide that disrupts the insect central nervous system, and the insect growth regulator methoprene, that effectively targets all kinds of fleas, ticks and lice during any stage of their life cycle. The fact that this treatment targets these insects at different stages of their life cycle makes this a really practical control treatment since Frontline Plus will rapidly eliminate the existing fleas, ticks and lice and will prevent them from producing more. As soon as the fipronil gets to the oil of the skin and hair follicles, it spreads to reach all fleas, ticks and lice on the dog's body.

When used every month, Frontline Plus for dogs completely breaks the flea life cycle and controls tick and lice infestations. Frontline Plus also aids in the control of sarcoptic mange infestations and can be used to treat mites.

How to Apply:

Remove the applicator from the child-resistant packaging. Hold the applicator upright and snap the applicator tip away from your face and body. Place the applicator tip through the dog's hair to the skin level between the shoulder blades. Squeeze the applicator and apply the entire contents in a single spot to the dog's skin. Avoid superficial application to the dog's hair. Only one applicator per treatment is needed.
